I love shit like this, it’s too cool for words. Can you imagine how amazing it would be if it was turned into a hotel or a night club?
It’s awesome to think that places like this even exist. It was built during the war, which is clear to see and has ended up, through privatisation, belonging to British Telecom. Now they’re selling it off.
As is mentioned in the Telegraph’s article it’s unlikely it will be turned into a hotel because of risks about fire evacuation and such but some enterprising individual could work out a way around that, surely?
The night before Andy and Lou’s wedding saw myself and Andy at a loose end in New York. Consequently we ended up in Live Bait drinking beer. That was until we discovered the joys of frozen margaritas. In pints!
Nottingham station is currently undergoing a bit of refurbishment, consequently helpful signs have appeared dotted about, warning us busy commuters of the dangers of restricted access to footbridges and the like.
It was with great ire that I spotted one the other day at said:
Keep to left
Footbridge Access
as been moved
Now, aside from the bizarre use of capitalisation and the lack of the definite article before ‘left’, the wordsmith behind this piece of free form poetry masquerading as a sign, has committed one of the most irritating modern sins.
That sin is using ‘as’ when they mean ‘has’. For fuck’s sake, honestly how hard is it?
Before I boil up again I must reveal the silver lining behind this grubby, laminated cloud. There were two signs! The second had been helpfully annotated.
I’ve just spent the past couple of days at Gleneagles and I must say it’s really very nice.
As I type I’m sitting in Braid’s Coffee Lounge having a latte, passing the time until I get my ride back to Edinburgh airport to catch a jet back down south.
Gleneagles is just like you’d imagine it, grand old magnificence side by side with an air of understated grace.
According to my boss, Colin Montgomery was here playing golf yesterday, for those in the golfing know this is a good thing. I imagine it would be a bit like me bumping into Jeff Minter while playing Tempest 2000, sort of.
Still I’ve had a lovely time and enjoyed every minute of it. I’ve done Claridges and now I’ve done Gleneagles, I guess that just leaves the Waldorf Astoria…
